PROF. M. VENKATESWARA RAO ENDOWMENT LECTURE

Dr. M. Venkateswara Rao has instituted the “Prof. M. Venkateswara Rao Endowment Lecture” with the support of ARC members as one of the annual events of IIChE ARC to motivate Chemical & allied Engineering student community especially in Amaravati Regional Centre and expose them to the emerging technological developments and practices of Chemical Engineering and Chemical Industry.

ABOUT Dr. M. VENKATESWARA RAO

Dr. M. Venkateswara Rao is a Former Professor of Chemical Engineering and Dean, Examinations, RVR & JC College of Engineering (Autonomous), Guntur, Andhra Pradesh.

Dr. Rao is a National Council member, Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers (IIChE) during 2010, 2015-17 & 2020-23 and served as its Controller of Examinations for the year 2016, Joint Secretary for the year 2017 and Vice - President for the years 2020 and 2022.

Prof. M. Venkateswara Rao received his B.Tech., M.Tech. and Ph.D. from University College of Engineering, Andhra University, Vishakhapatnam. Dr. Rao worked as Lecturer & Head (1981-1997), Department of Oil Technology, VRS & YRN College of Technology, Chirala, Andhra Pradesh. He then joined RVR & JC College of Engineering Guntur in 1997, served as Professor & Head, Department of Chemical Engineering for 15 years and played a key role in establishing and developing the Chemical Engineering Department as one of the most sought-after Departments in this region. He served as the Dean Examinations, RVR & JC College of Engineering (A) for 13 years and also Chairman, Board of Studies in Chemical Engineering of Acharya Nagarjuna University. Dr. Venkateswara Rao retired from RVR & JC College of Engineering (A) in June 2023. He has published 33 papers in peer reviewed International/National Journals, 9 book chapters and had more than 35 conference presentations to his credit.

Dr. Rao is associated with IIChE since 1979 and was instrumental in starting IIChE Guntur Regional Center in 2015 which has been re-designated as IIChE Amaravati Regional Centre (IIChE ARC) and has been serving as its Honorary Secretary since then. He has established IIChE-RVR & JCCE student chapter in 2004 and successfully conducted SCHEMCON-2010 as its Organizing Secretary. He hosted the IIChE Council Meetings in 2010 and 2016 at RVR & JC College of Engineering. He had the privilege of serving the IIChE Council for a period of one year as it’s nominated member for the year 2010 and was also elected Council member during 2015-17 & 2020-23. As an Honorary Secretary of IIChE ARC, Dr. Rao received best regional centre award six times (Best Regional Centre in 2017, 2020 & 2022 and Second Best in 2018, 2021& 2023 under Category B Regional Centres). As a Coordinator of IIChE-RVR& JCCE Student chapter, Dr. Rao received best student chapter award four times (Ambuja’s best student chapter award - First prize in 2011 & Second Prize in 2012 and Pidilite Industries Best Student Chapter award in 2015 & 2016).

With over 43 years of Teaching and Research Experience in Chemical Engineering and having long active association with the Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers at various levels, Dr. Rao has instituted an Endowment Lecture with the support of ARC members as one of the annual events of IIChE ARC to motivate Chemical & allied Engineering student community especially in Amaravati Regional Centre and expose them to the emerging technological developments and practices of Chemical Engineering and Chemical Industry.

Dr. Rao has also instituted an Endowment Lecture in the name of “Professor Venkateswara Rao & Smt. Anjani Devi Malapati” with the support of his family members as one of the annual events of IIChE Headquarters at the time of CHEMCONs. Affordable clean energy and Climate action are part of the 17 UN sustainable development goals. The use of fossil fuels for energy generation is resulting in massive emissions of CO2, which in turn is resulting in Global warming. One of the greatest challenges faced by mankind, because of the size and scale, is global warming. The endowment lecture is instituted to create awareness among the Chemical & Allied Engineering community on the latest research and state of the art technologies related to “Green Energy and Environment for Sustainable Development”.
